Navy Band Northeast

Established in 1974 and based on board Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, Navy Band Northeast is one of 11 official U.S. Navy bands worldwide. Under the operational command of President, U.S. Naval War College, Navy Band Northeast inspires patriotism, elevates esprit de corps, enhances Navy awareness and public relations, supports recruiting and retention efforts, preserves the nation’s musical heritage, and projects a positive image of the Navy.

The band accomplishes its mission by providing musical support for official functions, military ceremonies, community outreach initiatives, recruiting and retention efforts, and public performances throughout a 10-state Area of Responsibility. Navy Band Northeast’s primary musical ensembles include marching and ceremonial bands, the Pops Ensemble concert band, Rhode Island Sound popular music group, Jack Tar Brass Band, Trident Brass and Crosswinds Woodwind chamber quintets, and various protocol ensembles. Ensembles perform a wide range of music including patriotic, classical, big band swing, and top-40 hits.

The Ceremonial Band performs primarily patriotic music and marches while representing the United States Navy at official military and civilian functions, public concerts and other patriotic events throughout the Northeast.

Rhode Island Sound

Rhode Island Sound

Rhode Island Sound is the most contemporary sounding group from Navy Band Northeast. This ensemble entertains audiences with music ranging from rhythm and blues to classic rock. Performing current popular music at high schools throughout New England, Rhode Island Sound also performs public concerts at a variety of venues. Their versatility and showmanship has always kept them in great demand since their inception in 1974.

Brass Quintet

Top Brass Quintet

Navy Band Northeast’s Brass Quintet performances are appreciated by audiences of all ages. The quintet performs a wide range of musical styles encompassing traditional and modern brass literature, from Dixieland jazz to patriotic marches. Quintet performances include public concerts and educational clinics, as well as military ceremonies and receptions.

Protocol Combo

Protocol Combo

Navy Band Northeast’s Protocol Combo is a highly-skilled, five-member unit capable of performing a variety of jazz standards and popular instrumental music. They are sure to add a “touch of class” to your official reception, luncheon, dinner party or similar social events. Its capability also includes a dynamic educational program suitable for middle school through college-aged students.

Crosswinds Woodwind Quintet

The Crosswinds Woodwind Quintet combines the unique sounds of five different wind instruments to create a chamber group that is well-suited for a variety of occasions ranging from public concerts and educational clinics to small military ceremonies and receptions. The quintet's extensive repertoire encompasses a wide range of musical genres from patriotic selections to classical favorites.

Pops Ensemble

Pop Ensemble

Navy Band Northeast's Pops Ensemble is the band's largest ensemble, comprised of 30 wind and percussion instrumentalists, specializing in musical styles that range from patriotic favorites, traditional wind band literature, and Broadway showstoppers. Throughout its 10-state Area of Responsibility, the Pops Ensemble regularly performs for packed performing arts centers as a featured stand-alone concert, while also supporting regional festivals and celebrations, as well as cultural events.
